Castle of Terena stands above the small village of Terena, about 10 km south of Alandroal. The walls are simple, but the position is excellent, with open views across dry Alentejo fields and the road network that once mattered for border defence.
Terena is worth pairing with the Boa Nova Sanctuary just outside the village. Together they turn a quick castle stop into the best rural excursion from Alandroal.
