Praia Verde — literally "green beach" — earns its name from the dense forest of umbrella pines that backs the dunes, stretching right down to the edge of the sand. The beach itself is wide, long, and uncrowded by Algarve standards, with calm warm water that reaches around 22°C in summer. It sits inside a protected area, which is why the pines are intact and why no hotels rise above the treeline.
Facilities on the beach include sun lounger and parasol rental, a beach bar, a restaurant with sea views, and lifeguard coverage during the bathing season. The shallow gradient of the shoreline and the gentle waves make it safe for children. At low tide the sea retreats far enough to leave warm, shallow pools that small children especially enjoy. The beach is about a kilometre from Monte Gordo and accessible by a pleasant walk through the pines.
