The Jewish Museum is the essential stop in Belmonte. It explains the town's crypto-Jewish community, whose families preserved religious memory and practice in secrecy long after public Jewish life had been crushed in much of Iberia.
The museum is small, but the subject is powerful. Visit before the synagogue if you want the present-day community to make more sense.
