On Saturday mornings the Rossio becomes one of Estremoz's best reasons to visit. The market mixes fruit, vegetables, local cheeses, ceramics, antiques, tools, second-hand goods, and the useful clutter of rural Alentejo life.
It is not polished, and that is the point. Go early, browse slowly, and leave room for ewe or goat cheese from one of the food stalls. The market is also a good place to understand Estremoz as a working town rather than just a marble-and-castle postcard.
