Miradouro do Castrilhouco is one of the easiest ways to feel the scale of the International Douro landscape around Miranda. From the viewpoint, the river sits far below the plateau, hemmed in by cliffs that mark the Portuguese-Spanish border.
The light is best early or late, when the rock walls have more shape. Bring binoculars if you have them; this stretch of gorge is good raptor country, and birds often ride the thermals above the river.
