Ponte Velha

Long stone pedestrian bridge over the Tua and Mirandela's defining landmark.

The old bridge over the Tua is Mirandela's postcard view. Its present form grew out of 15th- and 16th-century work, with later repairs after floods changed the rhythm of the arches. It is pedestrian now, which makes the crossing feel pleasantly unhurried.

Walk it both ways. From the span you get the best read on the river, the town's low skyline, and the way Mirandela gathers around the water rather than a monumental square.
