The Castle of Amieira do Tejo is the most substantial fortress in Nisa municipality. Built in the 14th century, it has the square, compact strength of a military order castle and stands in a small village above the Tagus country.
It is a good stop for travellers driving between Nisa and the river. The castle is not surrounded by heavy tourism infrastructure, which is exactly why it still feels like part of the landscape.
