Ponte de Dom Luís I

Iconic double-deck iron bridge with the best city views

The double-deck iron bridge that arcs over the Douro between Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia, designed by Théophile Seyrig — Gustave Eiffel's partner — and finished in 1886. The upper deck now carries the metro and a pedestrian walkway with the best view in the city. The lower deck takes you to the port wine cellars on the Gaia side. Cross in both directions at least once.
