The Xerez Cromlech is a megalithic stone setting near Monsaraz, believed to date from the 4th or 5th millennium BCE. It was moved from its original location before the Alqueva Dam flooded the area, and its square layout is debated, but the stones still give a strong sense of the region's deep prehistoric past.
