Airport and Hotel Dining

Henri Coandă Airport's terminals offer a serviceable selection of restaurants, cafés, and fast-food outlets spread across both the Schengen and non-Schengen departure zones. Expect international chains alongside Romanian options — ciorba (sour soup), sarmale (stuffed cabbage rolls), and grilled meats appear on most menus. The prices are airport prices: roughly twice what you would pay in the city for the same dish. For long layovers, the Novotel and Crowne Plaza hotels adjacent to the terminals both have restaurants open to non-guests, which offer a slightly calmer atmosphere than the departure hall.

If you have two hours or more before your flight, the sensible choice is to take the express train to Bucharest (22–25 minutes, around 8 lei) and eat in the city centre, where the same money goes considerably further. The train runs back to the airport every 40 minutes, so the timing is manageable. Otopeni town has a few local Romanian diners on its main street, but they are aimed at residents rather than visitors and there is no particular dish or experience that makes them worth seeking out.
