Assumption Monastery

South of the fortress, the Assumption Monastery is a female religious community set back slightly from the river in a quiet meadow. Its Cathedral of the Dormition (Uspensky Sobor) is a simple, white-walled medieval church that has survived remarkably intact. The site tends to be even less visited than the fortress, which makes it a good place to sit quietly and take in the setting. The nuns maintain the grounds well and the atmosphere is genuinely peaceful.
