Gorny Vozdukh is the easiest way to get above Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. In winter it is a ski area with groomed runs and lifts; outside ski season, the gondola and slopes still give the best quick view over the city and surrounding valley.
The resort's great advantage is proximity. You can go from central streets to mountain air in a short ride, which changes the feel of the city completely.
