Vršac Castle

Medieval tower on the hill above Vršac, with wide views across Banat and the plain.

Vršac Castle is the town's marker from almost every angle, a lone medieval tower high on the hill east of the centre. The surviving tower is only part of the old fortress, but the setting does the rest of the work.

The climb takes about an hour on foot from the centre if you are not rushing. At the top, the view explains Vršac at once: town and vineyards below, Vojvodina's plain stretching west, and the Romanian borderland off to the east.
