Harbour Seafood

The row of fish restaurants along the harbour front is Cala Ratjada's best eating. Most display the day's catch in iced trays at the entrance — rockfish, dentex, sea bass, and whatever the boats brought in that morning. The preparation is straightforward: grilled whole, baked in salt, or made into a simple caldero (rice cooked in fish broth). Prices are higher than inland but justified by the freshness.

Look for the restaurants that have local fishermen eating at them — they're usually the ones with a more authentic menu and less tourist pricing. August gets very busy; booking ahead is sensible. The combination of good fish, harbour views, and a cold local beer at the end of the day makes for one of the more satisfying meals in northeast Mallorca.
