Far de Portocolom

A handsome white-stone lighthouse on the southern headland of the harbour, marking the entrance for boats coming in from the open sea. The squat octagonal tower sits beside a single-storey keeper's house with a low red-tile roof — a quintessential 19th-century Mediterranean lighthouse compound.

A short walk along the headland from the parking area takes you past the lighthouse to a series of low cliffs with views of the cove of S'Algar and the wider Cabrera channel. Sunset is the best moment; bring a windbreaker as the headland catches every breeze. The lighthouse itself is closed to visitors but the grounds and the path are freely accessible.

A story
The lighthouse has been operating continuously since 1863 — first oil-fired, then gas, then electricity. Its octagonal tower and attached keeper's house are among the oldest surviving lighthouse buildings in the Balearic Islands and were restored in the 2000s by a local foundation. The light is still in active service.
