The House of Hippolytus is one of the best ways to make Roman Complutum feel tangible. The excavated complex preserves the remains of a suburban house or collegium, with baths, rooms, and a famous mosaic signed by Hippolytus that shows a lively fishing scene. It gives Alcala de Henares a Roman layer beneath its better-known university and Cervantes associations.
The visit is compact and easy to combine with the Roman forum site. Go for the mosaic, but stay for the sense of an ordinary elite environment: heating systems, leisure spaces, and the quiet geometry of a town that existed centuries before the Golden Age city. It is especially worthwhile if you are already following the Roman trail around Alcala.
