The Sierra Helada natural park occupies the rocky headland at the western end of Poniente Beach, rising to about 400 metres and offering walking trails through Mediterranean scrub with views over the bay and toward the Benidorm island. It is a striking contrast to the resort town it overlooks — the park is undeveloped, the paths are sometimes rough, and in spring the hillsides are covered with wild herbs and flowers.
The main access is from the end of Poniente Beach or from the town of Rincon de Loix. The trails are well-marked by the Valencian regional government and range from easy coastal walks to more demanding ascents of the main ridge. The views from the top of the sierra — Benidorm's skyline of towers reflected in the bay below — are genuinely dramatic. Bring water; there is no shade on the upper paths and the rock reflects heat in summer.
