Litsleby Rock Carvings

Litsleby is best known for its single giant figure, painted red against the granite. The surrounding rocks have boats, ploughmen, and animals, but it's the spear-god who stops people in their tracks. Archaeologists think he may represent a sky god or a chieftain elevated to mythic status.

The site is a five-minute drive from Vitlycke, with a small car park and a short woodland path. No entry fee. Combine with Aspeberget, the next site along.

A story
The largest single figure in the Tanum carvings is at Litsleby — a 2.3-metre spear-bearing god, sometimes called 'the spear-god of Litsleby', looming over a row of much smaller human figures. He is the tallest known rock-carving figure in northern Europe.
