The Nabbensberg is a wooded hill rising gently from the town centre to a ridge above the lake. It has served as the city's main public park since the 19th century, and the paths through the linden and oak trees feel well-worn without being manicured. The museum building sits on the lower edge, and higher up the hill there are benches with open views across the town rooftops and out over Lake Vänern.
This is where locals come for a Sunday walk, an evening run, or a summer picnic. In the warm months the café attached to the museum spills out onto the terrace. The hill is modest by any standard, but the combination of the old trees, the lake view, and the general quietness make it a pleasant place to spend an hour, and it gives you the best elevated perspective on Vänersborg's position at the southern tip of the lake.
