Västerås has invested heavily in its waterfront in the past decade, and the harbour district is now the most dynamic part of the city for eating and drinking. Old industrial buildings have been converted into restaurants and bars, and the marina brings a seasonal buzz in summer.
The neighbourhood sits right on Lake Mälaren, and the evening light across the water in summer is the main draw. Several of the city's better restaurants are here, along with the kayak rental and the boat trips to the lake islands. In winter it quietens considerably, though some of the year-round restaurants maintain their quality regardless of season.
