Hoch-Ybrig is the local ski area, about 20 minutes by car from Einsiedeln. It is modest by Alpine standards — around 40km of pistes, mostly blue and red — but that is part of the point. No lift queues, no resort villages, reasonable prices. The top elevation reaches about 1,900 metres, which gives it decent snow from December through March in a good year.
In summer the same lifts open for hikers, and the plateau at the top offers easy walking with wide views over the Schwyz pre-Alps and down to the Sihlsee. This is not a destination resort, but as a day out from Einsiedeln — or from Zurich — it punches above its size.
