Ski Area

Hoch-Ybrig's ski area covers around 50 km of marked pistes spread across 20 runs, ranging from the base station at Weglosen (1,035 m) up to the Sternen area at 1,856 m. The majority of the slopes are blue and red — long, groomed cruising runs that suit intermediates and families well. There are very few black runs, which tells you the character of the place: it is not trying to be Verbier.

What Hoch-Ybrig does well is atmosphere. The slopes rarely feel crowded even on busy weekends, the lift queues stay short, and the mountain restaurants are convivial rather than expensive. There is a children's area with a magic carpet near the base, making it a particularly good choice for parents with young skiers. The NBC Snowpark provides kickers and rails for those who want them, but this is not primarily a freestyle resort.

A story
Hoch-Ybrig was the home of the world's first tri-line ski lift system — three parallel parallel lifts side by side, allowing significantly higher passenger throughput on the most popular runs. The resort has stayed family-oriented ever since, deliberately not chasing the "biggest mountain" crowd that flocks to larger resorts.
