Trümmelbach Falls are inside the mountain rather than on its face — ten glacial waterfalls carved into the rock by meltwater from the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau glaciers, carrying up to 20,000 litres per second at peak flow. The route through them involves a tunnel lift and a series of walkways and galleries bored directly into the cliff, giving an extraordinary experience of water on an almost industrial scale: the sound is overwhelming, the spray constant, and the light strange.
The falls are in the Lauterbrunnen valley floor, accessible by bus from Lauterbrunnen village or on foot from Stechelberg. From Mürren, the cable car down to Stechelberg and a short walk or bus ride get you there in under an hour. Combined with Lauterbrunnen itself and the Staubbach Falls visible from the village, this makes for a good half-day circuit from the cable car base. The falls are generally open from April to November.
