Place Pestalozzi is the heart of Yverdon, an irregular cobbled square dominated by the four towers of the castle on one side and the eighteenth-century Reformed church on the other. A statue of the educational reformer Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi stands in the middle, gesturing toward an imaginary child.
The square hosts the weekly market on Tuesday and Saturday mornings, and a string of pavement cafés on the sunny side make it a pleasant place to sit and watch the town go past. The fountains, the old town houses with their painted shutters, and the view through to the castle gate all make this the obvious starting point for any walk around Yverdon.
