National Museum of Hutsulshchyna and Pokuttia Folk Art

The National Museum of Hutsulshchyna and Pokuttia Folk Art is the deeper reason to visit Kolomyia. Its collection covers the craft and domestic culture of the Hutsul and Pokuttia regions: carved wood, embroidered shirts, woven textiles, ceramics, metalwork, and painted ritual objects.

Give it more time than the Pysanka Museum. The displays explain how the Carpathian foothills developed such a strong visual identity, and why Kolomyia became one of the best places to understand it.

A story
The museum was founded in 1926 and grew into one of Ukraine's great repositories of Carpathian folk art. Its collections make clear that Hutsul design is not a single decorative style but a whole visual world of textiles, carving, ceramics, metalwork, and ritual objects.
