Burrough Hill is an Iron Age hillfort a short drive southeast of Melton Mowbray. The earthwork ramparts are still clear, and the open grassland gives broad views across the Leicestershire countryside.
It is the best outdoor companion to a town-centre visit. Bring shoes that can handle mud after rain, and give yourself time to walk the ramparts rather than just looking from the car park.
