Audley End House

Grand Jacobean mansion and landscaped estate on the edge of Saffron Walden

Audley End is one of the great Jacobean houses of England, though what survives is only a portion of the palace-scale house built here in the early 17th century. It still feels grand: long stone fronts, formal rooms, service spaces, stables and parkland shaped by centuries of money and taste.

Give it time. The house is the headline, but the walled kitchen garden, grounds and service areas make the visit much more than a walk through furnished rooms.
