Southchurch Hall

Medieval moated manor house preserved as a small local-history museum.

Southchurch Hall is a timber-framed medieval manor house set beside a surviving moat in a quiet park east of Southend's seafront. The oldest parts date from the 14th century, and the interiors are arranged to show domestic life across several periods rather than to overwhelm you with display cases.

It is a gentle, low-key stop that works well if you want a break from the pier and amusement arcades. The surrounding gardens and moat make the setting more attractive than the small scale of the museum might suggest, especially on a slow walk toward Southchurch or the eastern beaches.
