Loughrigg Fell is not high, but it is wonderfully placed. From its broad, knobbly top you can look toward Windermere, Rydal Water, Grasmere, and the surrounding higher fells, which makes it one of the best value walks from Ambleside.
The routes are flexible: climb directly from town, loop around Rydal Water, or continue toward Loughrigg Tarn. It is a good choice when cloud sits on the higher tops but you still want a proper Lake District walk.
