Waterhead Pier is where Ambleside meets Windermere. Lake boats leave from here for Bowness and Lakeside, and even if you are not taking a cruise the waterfront gives you the classic view down England's longest lake.
The pier is a 15-minute walk downhill from the town centre, with cafes and boat-hire stands around the shore. It is busy and commercial, but it also gives Ambleside its best low-effort scenery.
