Bognor's beach is a broad stretch of sand and shingle running the full length of the town, backed by a traditional promenade with shelters, ice cream kiosks, and the kind of amusement arcade that has changed very little since the 1980s. The sand is reasonably clean and the beach gets busy in summer — the town's position roughly 90 kilometres from London makes it accessible enough for day trips by train.
The sea here is the English Channel: cold, greenish, and not always inviting, but perfectly swimmable in summer. Bognor has historically recorded some of the highest sunshine hours in the UK — the resort built its reputation partly on this claim, though the English weather remains unpredictable. The beach is free, parking is available along the seafront, and the train from London Victoria takes under two hours.
