Kent and East Sussex Railway

Preserved steam railway running from Tenterden through the Rother Valley toward Bodiam.

The Kent and East Sussex Railway is Tenterden's strongest reason to be on an itinerary. Trains leave from Tenterden Town station and run through fields, woods, and small Wealden stations toward Bodiam, often behind steam engines.

It works well even if you are not a railway obsessive. The pace is slow, the scenery is gentle, and the line gives a shape to the day: ride out, walk or visit Bodiam Castle if services and timing allow, then come back to town for tea or a pint.
