Hook-with-Warsash Local Nature Reserve

The intertidal mudflats and salt marshes along the Solent shore south of the village form one of the south coast's most important wintering grounds for wading birds. Brent geese (over 1,000 wintering at the peak count), curlew, redshank, and the occasional spoonbill are all reliably present from October to March.

The Solent Way footpath skirts the reserve all the way down to Hook Lake. Bring binoculars and tide-friendly footwear; some sections of path are submerged at the highest tides. The most productive lookout point is the bench near the saltmarsh on Workman's Lane.
