Watford Palace Theatre

Grade II Edwardian producing theatre, opened 1908

A fine Edwardian playhouse in red brick on Clarendon Road, opened as a variety theatre in 1908 and still producing its own work after a careful restoration in 2004. Capacity is around 600 in two tiers, with the original plasterwork, gilded boxes, and trompe-l'œil ceiling preserved.

The Palace produces around half its programme in-house and brings in tours of new plays for the rest. It is a regular pre-London tryout venue and has a strong record of producing Christmas plays for families (not pantomimes). Pre-show suppers are served in the upstairs bar.
