The Daffodil

Address 18-20 Suffolk Parade, Cheltenham GL50 2AE

A 1920s Art Deco cinema converted into a restaurant, with the original auditorium layout preserved — the dining floor slopes gently down toward what was the screen, now the kitchen, which you can watch through a glass wall. The space is one of the best-looking restaurant rooms in the Cotswolds, and the food matches the setting reasonably well.

The menu runs to modern British brasserie cooking: good steaks, seasonal fish, decent vegetarian options. Prices are mid-range to high, though the set menu is better value. Goes popular for pre-theatre dinners given its location near the Everyman. The atmosphere on a busy Saturday evening, with the Art Deco fittings lit and the kitchen on display, is genuinely enjoyable.
