Getting There

Bournemouth International Airport handles flights to several European destinations. Bristol and Southampton airports, both within about 50 miles, offer wider connections.

By train, Dorchester, Poole, Bournemouth, and Weymouth are all connected directly to London Waterloo (about 2 hours). On a separate line, Sherborne and Gillingham connect to London Paddington and to Bristol and Bath (about 90 minutes).

By car, the A303 is the main route from London into northern Dorset (with Stonehenge roughly halfway). The M3 and M27 connect southern Dorset to London and the Channel Tunnel. The A35 between Dorchester and Bridport has spectacular views over the surrounding countryside, and the coastal B3157 between Weymouth and Bridport is one of the finest drives in southern England — particularly dramatic at sunset.

Ferries run from Poole and Weymouth to the Channel Islands and Cherbourg, operated by Brittany Ferries and Condor Ferries.
