Goonhilly Earth Station

Satellite-dish landscape on Goonhilly Downs, set amid heathland and prehistoric remains.

Goonhilly Earth Station is one of the stranger sights on the Lizard: large satellite dishes rising from open heath. The visitor centre has had an uneven history, so do not treat it as a conventional attraction without checking ahead, but the surrounding downs give clear views of the space-age hardware.

The contrast is the appeal. Ancient stones, rare heathland, and giant communications dishes share the same windswept plateau.
