The parish church of St Eustachius stands on the site of the abbey's chapel, immediately south of the surviving abbey gatehouse. The current building is largely fourteenth and fifteenth century, with a tall west tower visible from across the Tavy valley. Inside, the proportions are generous and there is a fine collection of medieval and Victorian stained glass, including windows by Morris & Co. and Burne-Jones.
It is worth slipping in if the door is open. The Drake family pew, several monuments to Tavistock's mine owners, and a set of carved bench-ends reward a quiet circuit. Volunteers are usually on hand at weekends and during the summer.
