St Michael de Rupe Church sits dramatically on Brent Tor, a volcanic hill rising above the countryside west of Tavistock. The church is tiny, but the setting is superb: stone walls, wind, sheep pasture, and broad views toward Dartmoor and the Tamar Valley.
It is a short excursion rather than an urban sight, and that is the point. Come for the walk up, the sense of exposure, and one of Devon's most memorable church locations; in poor weather the hill can feel much wilder than its height suggests.
