Chavenage House is an Elizabethan manor house just outside Tetbury, built in mellow Cotswold stone and still privately owned. Guided tours are part of the appeal: they tend to be personal, slightly eccentric, and better than a silent walk through roped rooms.
The house has Civil War associations and has also been used as a film and television location. Check tour days before travelling, as opening is limited.
