Zennor Head

Zennor Head is the dramatic promontory above the village, reached by a 20-minute walk along the South West Coast Path. The headland is managed by the National Trust and the path winds through coastal heathland — gorse, heather, sea campion — to the exposed point with sheer granite cliffs dropping to the Atlantic below.

The views are outstanding in clear weather: east to Godrevy Lighthouse and the sweep of St Ives Bay, west toward Gurnard's Head and the Penwith clifftops. Immediately below the headland is Pendour Cove, a small rocky inlet inaccessible except to serious climbers. Grey seals are sometimes visible in the water around the headland. The path continues west along the cliff edge toward Gurnard's Head (about 2 miles) — a superb stretch of coastal walking with almost no development visible in either direction.

A story
Pendour Cove, immediately below Zennor Head, is the cove where the Mermaid of Zennor legend is set — and local fishermen once reported seeing her surface here to call for her lost chorister, a story still taken seriously enough in the 18th century to be recorded in parish records.
