Berry Hall Farm

A medieval moated farmhouse on Ravenshaw Lane, about two kilometres east of Solihull town centre. It is privately owned and not open to the public inside, but the exterior — approached via a footpath — is clearly visible and worth seeing. The moat is intact and the half-timbering is well preserved.

For visitors interested in medieval English rural architecture, Berry Hall is an unusual survival: an unrestored, unmodified example of a type of structure that has usually been either demolished or heavily adapted. The footpath that passes it forms part of a pleasant walk through the eastern edge of Solihull and along the River Blythe.

A story
Berry Hall is a moated, 15th-century timber-framed farmhouse that has survived in a quiet corner of suburban Solihull with almost no alterations — a remarkable piece of medieval domestic architecture sitting within sight of 1970s housing estates. The moat is still water-filled and complete, and the half-timbered structure retains its original form.
