Walsall Arboretum is a well-maintained Victorian park on the eastern edge of the town centre, covering around 80 acres of ornamental gardens, lawns, and a boating lake. It was laid out in the 1870s on former mining land and has been a public park ever since. Mature trees, flower beds, and the lake make it a genuinely pleasant place to walk.
The park comes alive during the annual Walsall Illuminations, held for several weeks in autumn — one of the few remaining large-scale public illuminations events in England outside Blackpool. Outside that season it is a quiet and unpretentious green space, popular with locals and largely unknown to visitors.
