Walsall Wharf and Canal Basin

Walsall Wharf is the regenerated canal basin at the edge of the town centre, now anchored by the New Art Gallery and a handful of bars and cafes in former industrial buildings. The basin was part of the Birmingham Canal Navigations — the dense network of canals that supplied raw materials to the Black Country's foundries and workshops.

The waterfront gives the best sense of Walsall's industrial past. Old warehouse buildings, lock gates, and narrowboats moored in the basin recall the town's role as a canal port. It is a pleasant area to walk along, particularly on a clear day, and a good base for exploring the surrounding canal towpaths which connect Walsall to the wider network.
