The Rose & Crown

18th-century pub on Market Place serving well-kept ales and reliable food

A good-looking Georgian pub on the Market Place, the Rose & Crown is one of the busiest in town and an easy bet for an evening pint or a decent meal. The interior is open-plan, well-lit, and a step or two above standard pub-grub — the kitchen takes care over the burgers and the Sunday roasts, both of which are reliable.

Outdoor tables on the Market Place are pleasant in summer. Children welcome until 9pm. Cask ales rotate but Purity Ubu, brewed nearby, is a fixture.
