Parkanaur Forest Park

Mixed woodland with rare white fallow deer, six kilometres west of town

Parkanaur Forest Park covers about 60 hectares of mixed mature woodland around the country estate of Burges Manor, six kilometres west of Dungannon along the A4. A network of waymarked footpaths loops through beech, oak, and Sitka spruce; the longest takes about two hours.

The park's distinctive feature is its herd of white fallow deer, descended from a pair brought to the estate in 1595 — one of only a handful of pure white herds in the British Isles. The deer are visible in the enclosed park at the centre of the forest. The walled garden, the rhododendron walk in May, and the disabled-access trails are all worth knowing about. Free, open all day.
