Ranfurly House sits at the top of the town's main hill on the site of the old O'Neill fort. The eighteenth-century building was restored in 2012 as a heritage and arts centre, and now houses the Hill of the O'Neill exhibition — a clear, well-curated walk through 400 years of Gaelic and plantation history in Tyrone.
The exhibition culminates with the Flight of the Earls in 1607, when Hugh O'Neill and his followers sailed from Lough Swilly into exile in Europe, ending the Gaelic order in Ulster. The viewing platform outside gives the same vantage the O'Neills once had — Slieve Gallion, the Sperrins, and on clear days the Mournes. Free to visit.
