The wide grassy promenade along the lough is the heart of Warrenpoint. It stretches for several hundred metres from the harbour past the town square, with benches facing the water and the green hills of the Cooley peninsula opposite. In summer the square fills with travelling fairs, music events, and a string of festivals — Warrenpoint runs a bigger calendar of these than the town's size would suggest.
The harbour itself is small and working, with fishing boats, a yacht club, and a passenger ferry that used to run across to Omeath in County Louth. A short walk west along the shore reaches Narrow Water; the path is flat and easy and is the simplest way to take in the lough scenery on foot.
