Crug Hywel

Flat-topped hillfort above Crickhowell, better known in English as Table Mountain

Crug Hywel, or Table Mountain, is the flat-topped hill above Crickhowell and the reason the town's setting feels so good. The summit carries the remains of an Iron Age hillfort, but the real draw is the open view over the Usk Valley and back into the Black Mountains.

The walk is short enough for a half-day but steep enough to deserve proper shoes and a weather check. On a clear day it turns Crickhowell from a pleasant market town into a proper destination.
