Richard Booth's Bookshop is the symbolic centre of Hay's book-town story. Booth's idea that a small Welsh market town could become an international book destination changed Hay's economy and gave it the identity travellers still come for.
The shop itself is large enough to reward a proper rummage, with new and second-hand books spread through several departments. It is not the only bookshop in Hay, but it is the one to start with.
